Nairobi, Kenya – 28th November 2025: BURN, Africa’s leading clean cookstove manufacturer, distributor, and carbon project developer, in partnership with Climate Solutions, has announced that its Digital Kitchen Performance Test (dKPT) pilot for biomass stoves has been officially approved by Gold Standard for implementation.

This approval marks a major step forward and breakthrough for the clean cooking sector towards the digitization of monitoring and verification processes that underpin the integrity of carbon credit projects. By integrating advanced digital tools, this digital methodology will significantly improve data accuracy, reduce human error, and enhance transparency across clean cooking value chains.

Under the pilot, BURN plans to distribute ~1,000 ECOA Char stoves in Kwara State, Nigeria, where real-world household data will be collected using digital monitoring systems. The dKPT tool enables automatic recording of fuel consumption through digital scales, replaces manual data logging with digital sales platforms, and introduces continuous usage monitoring through sensors installed on a sample of stoves. This will allow for real-time insights into stove adoption, performance, and fuel savings over time, ensuring that credits generated under this methodology are of the highest integrity and represent the highest-quality credits in the carbon market, all of which will be CCP-labelled.

“This is good news for the clean cooking sector,” said Peter Scott, CEO and Founder of BURN. “It reflects BURN’s innovative approach and leadership in advancing how Kitchen Performance Tests are done. We are proud to pioneer technology that will boost investor confidence, enhance data accuracy, and ensure the highest integrity carbon credits.”

Olivier Lefebvre, CEO of Climate Solutions, said, “The tech is finally ready. We’re thrilled to pilot this with BURN, whose leadership will be key to its success. This pilot will help set a new standard for data-driven climate impact measurement.”

The dKPT Tool may be applied alongside Gold Standard’s Technologies and Practices to Displace Decentralized Thermal Energy Consumption (TPDDTEC) Methodology, Version 4.0, bringing together robust carbon accounting frameworks with cutting-edge digital technology. The methodology tool was under public consultation on the Gold Standard website, with stakeholders invited to share their feedback and insights.

Climate Solutions digital platform provides transparent and independent access to stove usage and fuel consumption data and makes it available to all stakeholders (developers, auditors, standards, buyers). This data is cleaned and processed into Emission Reductions using the highest integrity methodologies available.

Since 2011, BURN has distributed over ~6 million biomass, LPG, and electric cooking appliances across 12 African countries, including its award-winning, cellular-enabled ECOA Induction Cooker. BURN’s clean cooking solutions reduce fuel use by up to 60%, cutting both CO₂ and black carbon—one of the most potent short-lived climate pollutants. To date, these stoves have improved ~32 million lives, reduced indoor air pollution by 65-100%, protected forests by saving over 35.4 million tons of wood, and generated 9.5 million Gold Standard credits.
