BURN receives second Letter Of Authorisation from the Government Of Tanzania to sell credits to The International Aviation Scheme (CORSIA)

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – 21 September 2026 – BURN, Africa’s leading clean cooking company, and carbon project developer, has received a second Letter of Authorization (LoA) from the Government of Tanzania that authorizes carbon credits under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, specifically for use in the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) scheme. 

The LoA, issued by the Office of the Vice President, is the next milestone in BURN’s ongoing plan to deliver clean cooking appliances to over one million Tanzanian households by 2026, including industry leading ECOA IoT-enabled electric induction cookers. Through this project, BURN will generate CORSIA-compliant carbon credits using Gold Standard’s TPDDTEC and MMECD methodologies – widely regarded as the world’s most rigorous frameworks for biomass and electric cooking.  

Tanzania’s carbon regulations give authorization ex-post, and BURN’s second LOA covers 785,000 emission reductions from vintages 2022 to 2025. With over 40% of the ITMOs already committed via forward offtake agreements, the BURN team is now focused on insuring and tagging these CORSIA credits. BURN’s previous authorisation in Tanzania was the first globally to be tagged through the insurance pathway (December 2024).  

These milestones follow BURN’s project in Tanzania receiving an “A” rating from MSCI, a global leader in ESG and climate research. MSCI recognized BURN’s strong performance across six key criteria – including additionality, quantification, permanence, co-benefits, and delivery risk – underscoring the credibility and long-term impact of BURN’s carbon projects.

 BURN leverages carbon financing to make clean cooking affordable for households across Africa, unlocking over $60 million in carbon subsidies to date and reducing stove prices for families by 60–100%.  

The health, economic, and environmental benefits of BURN’s stoves have been independently verified. A peer-reviewed Randomized Control Trial (RCT) by the University of Pennsylvania and University of Chicago found that households using BURN’s biomass cookstoves cut fuel consumption by 39% – saving US$119 per family per year – while reducing CO₂ emissions by 3.5 tons annually. The results were published in the American Economic Review, one of the world’s most respected economic journals.  

BURN operates an assembly facility in Tanzania employing 500 people and producing 6,000 electric stoves per month. To date, the company has delivered clean cooking appliances to 330,000 Tanzanian households, with a roadmap to expand to one million households nationwide.  This latest authorisation covers several project activities in Tanzania, including those being developed through Global Cookstoves Ltd (GCL), a joint venture between BURN and Key Carbon, bringing together BURN’s expertise in clean cooking and carbon project development with Key Carbon’s expertise in carbon markets and carbon project finance.
