Dar es Salam, Tanzania – 22nd June 2026 – BURN, Africa's leading clean cooking company and carbon project developer, has welcomed the submission of Tanzania's Initial Report under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, a critical milestone that advances the country's participation in international carbon markets and paves the way for the generation of CORSIA-eligible carbon credits from BURN's clean cooking activities in Tanzania.

The Initial Report forms a key part of the international framework governing cooperative approaches under Article 6, providing transparency on how emission reductions authorized for international transfer will be accounted for by host countries. The submission strengthens Tanzania's position as an emerging leader in high-integrity carbon markets and creates a pathway for climate finance to flow into projects delivering measurable environmental and social impact.

For BURN, the development represents an important step toward expanding access to compliance-grade carbon markets through its Tanzania clean cooking program. By enabling the generation of CORSIA-aligned carbon credits, the framework unlocks new opportunities to channel international climate finance into the distribution of cleaner, more efficient cooking technologies for households across the country.

"Today's milestone demonstrates Tanzania's commitment to leveraging carbon markets to accelerate sustainable development and climate action," said Chris McKinney, Chief Commercial Officer at BURN. "The submission of the Initial Report provides a critical foundation for scaling clean cooking solutions, reducing emissions, protecting forests, and improving livelihoods for thousands of Tanzanian families."

BURN has emerged as a global leader in the development of high-integrity clean cooking carbon projects. The company recently became the first project developer worldwide to receive CORSIA-tagged cookstove carbon credits through the insurance pathway, for this project in Tanzania, setting a new benchmark for quality, transparency, and environmental integrity in compliance carbon markets.

Through its operations in Tanzania, BURN is helping households transition to cleaner cooking technologies that reduce fuel consumption, lower greenhouse gas emissions, improve indoor air quality, and alleviate pressure on forests. Carbon finance plays a vital role in making these technologies affordable and accessible to low-income households.

The advancement of Tanzania's Article 6 framework reinforces growing international demand for high-quality carbon credits that deliver both climate and development benefits. As the aviation sector increases participation in the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), demand for eligible credits is expected to continue growing, creating significant opportunities for countries and projects that meet the highest standards of environmental integrity.

BURN looks forward to continuing its collaboration with the Government of Tanzania and other stakeholders to mobilize climate finance at scale, expand access to clean cooking solutions, and contribute to Tanzania's sustainable development and climate objectives.
