BURN’s Strategic Role in CORSIA: Driving High-Integrity Clean Cooking Credits

February 16, 2026News

At BURN, we have spent the past two years preparing a robust supply of CP1 credits, with the goal of providing a credible and impactful pathway for carbon offset buyers. Our efforts are grounded in our long-standing commitment to sustainable clean cooking solutions across Africa. Through the CORSIA framework, we are positioning ourselves at the intersection of climate action and development, offering high-integrity carbon credits that help global industries meet their emissions reduction targets while directly benefiting millions of people.

We have been working closely with governments across all 12 of our markets to integrate clean cooking projects into national carbon crediting frameworks. While only 6of these markets are currently ready to support these initiatives through their national crediting programs, this focused engagement is a crucial part of our strategy. These markets have demonstrated a clear commitment to supporting clean cooking as a means of reducing emissions, and we are actively collaborating with them to ensure that these projects can scale effectively.

In 2025, we reached a significant milestone by becoming the first project developer to deliver CP1-tagged credits via the insurance path. This achievement marked a critical step forward, allowing us to offer compliance-grade credits that meet the highest international standards. The credits we generate are designed to meet the rigorous requirements of CORSIA, enabling global carbon offset buyers to invest in clean cooking projects with confidence, knowing that they are supporting projects that are both impactful and credible.

To date, we have secured Letters of Approval (LoA) from the governments of Tanzania, Malawi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), all of which are integral to our efforts to expand clean cooking access across the continent. These approvals signify strong governmental backing for our projects and create a clear path for scaling the impact of clean cooking solutions. Looking ahead, we expect to secure LoAs from three to four additional governments in 2026, further expanding our ability to deliver high-quality, compliance-grade carbon credits.

The progress we are making is not just about meeting regulatory milestones, it is about creating tangible, lasting change. Our approach to generating carbon credits is built on a foundation of integrity, transparency, and measurable impact. Every credit we deliver not only helps our partners and clients meet their climate goals but also makes a direct difference in the lives of African households. Access to clean cooking technology reduces harmful emissions, improves health outcomes, and enhances economic opportunities for families.

As we look to 2026 and beyond, we remain committed to expanding our supply of high-integrity carbon credits within the CORSIA framework.  With the continued support of governments, investors, and carbon market intermediaries, we are poised to continue to scale our CP1 & CP2 supply, delivering climate benefits to the aviation market and positive community outcomes at a larger scale.
